Five Things We Learned From Taylor Swift’s Legendary ‘Eras Tour’ Documentary

We indicated before that the duration of The Eras tour is only 2 hours and 48 minutes; this necessitated making some edits (though we wouldn’t have cared if it had gone over three hours). Songs like “Wildest Dreams” and “Love Live” were left off the film’s repertoire, as were other noteworthy outfit alterations. Who can say? Perhaps Taylor has more surprises in store for the film’s release on streaming services. Listening to some of those tunes will have to be done through YouTube videos for the time being.

5. The film is missing a few musical numbers and/or performances.

The Eras picture is expected to gross a lot of money, which was predicted based on its crazed pre-sales and opening weekend projections. But when we watched the film, we wondered how large those figures could possibly be, so we looked it up online. Preorders have reportedly already surpassed those of both Barbie (the highest-grossing film of 2023) and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even though Barbie was a box office smash, Taylor Swift may end up being even more popular. Insane.

4. The ‘Eras Tour’ is set to break out financially.

Concert videos tend to either go the way of being “documentary style” in the sense that you also get backstage footage, voiceovers, interviews with some of the cast and crew members, etc., or it can just simply be the performance and the performance alone. Swift chooses the latter for her Eras Tour, with the film starting at the start of the concert and continuing the whole way through. Although we appreciate both methods for what they bring to the table, we find that the performance-only mode brings the most authentic sense of being in SoFi Stadium to Eras Tour. However, Swift still has another leg of her tour to begin in 2024, so perhaps by then we will have another video that shows us what goes on behind the scenes. The ‘Eras Tour’ is set to break out financially.

3. There is no rehearsal film or interviews in a documentary format.

We were left wondering who the brilliant filmmaker was as we took in these breathtaking images. That, our friends, is Sam Wrench, who is both a Grammy-nominated and Emmy Award winning filmmaker. Wrench has directed concerts by Billie Eilish (2023’s Billie Eilish Live at the O2) and by BTS (2021’s Permission to Dance on Stage) at SoFi Stadium.

2. The ‘Eras Tour’ is Sam Wrench’s brainchild, and he directs it.

Remember back in August when Swift played six sold-out performances on the first leg of her Eras Tour? Three of those outings appear to have been compiled into this film. Although it’s not apparent which three days were utilised from the six-run stretch, the outstanding cohesion makes it seem as though they all took place on the same night. Even if you could tell, it wouldn’t be a big thing; concert films often edit together performances from several nights, and the results are usually great. We only wanted to point out Taylor’s method.

1. Three of the six nights of filming took place at SoFi Stadium.

Being among the unfortunate few who weren’t able to attend the show (please let us have a media pass next time, Tay), we had no idea what to expect from The Eras. Here are five surprising revelations/lessons the film taught us.
